INSTRUCTION
WEEK 1
Lecture 1 : Introduction to module
WEEK 1 | 25/08/2020
Today is the first lecture with Mr Martin. After the module briefing, we were require install two software which is Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and Audition for our next coming exercises. Therefore, Mr Martin asked us to finish the editing exercises and post three favorite stop motion videos.

WEEK 2
Lecture 2 : Framing &Storyboard
WEEK 2 | 01/09/2020
This week we learn about cinematography of how to take motion picture, films and video are made up of many shots. We learned how to place the camera in the best position for that particular moment in the narrative.
Fig 1.1, lecture slides
A shot size determines how large the area that's visible within the frame. There are 7 different shot sizes which are :
- Extreme wide shot
- Wide shot
- Medium wide shot
- Medium shot
- Medium close-up shot
- Close-up shot
- Extreme close-up shot

The Rule of Thirds
Camera angles are also very important for shooting a good film. The rule of thirds divides the frame into thirds both horizontally and vertically. The points where the vertical and horizontal lines across are aesthetically pleasing spots to place subjects or to have perspective lines converge.

Screen direction
Dynamic screen direction :
Constant screen travel depicts a subject motion in one direction only. A series of shots of a person walking, a car driving, a plane flying - should move into the same direction to show progression.

Fig 1.6, screen direction
Static screen direction:
When planning shots with two characters, you need to understand the camera movement in relation to the 180 rule. The rule enforces the camera stays on a horizontal axis and not cross-sections so that it will disorient the viewer. The horizontal axis is called "Line of Action".
The 180 degree rule :
The 180 degree rule is a basic guideline that usually states two characters in a scene. By keeping the camera on one side of an imaginary axis between two characters, the first character is always frame right of the second character. If you don't follow the 180 degree rule, it disrupts the scene disorient the audience.

WEEK 3
Lecture 3 : Film Sound
WEEK 3 | 08/09/2020
This week is film sound. Its about the mixing of sound elements creates an audio setting that supports the action and engages the spectators.
- Speech - dialogue, voice over, the converstation between two characters in the movie
- Sound effect - ambience (backgrounds), refers to the background noise present at a given scene or a location.
- Music - to enhance the dramatic narrative and the emotional impact
Dubbing
Can be called as Automated Dialog Replacement (ADR), is the process of re-recording dialogue after filming process to improve audio quality or reflect dialogue changes.
Foley
A sound effects technique or synchronous effects or live effects. The Foley technique are named for Jack Foley, a sound editor at Universal Studios.

WEEK 4
Lecture 4 : Storytelling in Film
WEEK 4 | 15/09/2020
Fig 1.1, lecture slides
Storytelling in film is :
"I write in picture, I show what others tell" by Jean Cocteau.
Story = what happened?
Plot = Why they happen and how?
What is plot segmentation?
The best method for understanding a film's narrative system is to create a plot segmentation, a scene-by-scene outline of the entire film.
- Each scene should be described briefly in a separate line.
- The plot segmentation helps to reveal a film's overall structure and it's smallest details.
Fig 1.2, three act structure
The three act structures which are :
- Beginning - set up or introduction of the story
- Middle / climax - the climax, confrontation of a problem
- Ending - resolutions of problem
ACT 1 - Beginning
The "inciting incident" which turn the story in a new direction
- To introduce the main character
- To introduce the world
- To establish the dramatic situation
- Leads to an incident that complicates the story
ACT 2 - Middle / climax
The "risking action" of the story develops complications which will lead to the climax of the story
- Known as "risking action
- To develop obstacles / complications
- Leads to climax of the story
At the end of this act is the "Climactic Turning Point" where a possible solution is presented and the protagonist's quest reaches critical mass.
ACT 3 - Ending
Act 3 resolves all obstacles / problems and ends the climax
- Answered to all obstacles / problems
- Trying the loose ends
- Ending of climax

Week 5 :
We have a class exercise this week which is to come out with the three act structure of the video that are given in google classroom. We were require to write down the plot points, the beginning, middle and the climax of the story to make sure that we all are clear about three act structure.

REFLECTION
I have no knowledge no filming video and editing audio. So, this subject is very new for me and I was wondering on how people film a good video. After few lectures, I think it was very easy just have to look for a good angle with sufficient lighting. However, when come to the projects, things become harder as I think. It is very hard to film a good quality video. After trying many times, I finally got a little familiar on filming skills but I think have a lot to improve. However, it was a good try for me to start to learn video shooting, I did learned a lot from this module and I will try my best to improve my filming skills enhance my technical skills in future.
